DCBS: Chapter 31

Ji Tong hid in a corner with a guilty conscience, trying to reduce his sense of existence.

Unexpectedly, he turned out to be a stumbling block on the host’s growth path.

He had obviously been serving the host conscientiously!

…It was just that in the process of serving the host, he couldn’t resist the temptation of food and was a bit greedy.

Every night when he came to the basketball team, he did nothing but eat late-night snacks and sincerely cheer when admiring the healthy human body. He had no intention of usurping the throne.

Who would’ve thought that this group of superficially tall and mighty high school students would like a child who loved to eat and gave exaggerated praise!

Ji Tong’s data was running quickly as he tried to find a solution.

Now the basketball team couldn’t be counted on for the time being. The motionless task panel confirmed their loyalty to him.

The host still had the people from the bakery and the third class in his social network.

The former had too few people. There was only the owner He Shiwen, the pastry chef and the child Xing Xing. The age difference was very large. They got along well with the host but it was closer to the care of kind elders and the dependence of a child. This obviously didn’t meet the requirements of the task.

The latter did meet the conditions but most of them were temporarily not excellent. The vengeful Ji Tong still remembered how they blindly targeted the host at the beginning. Today, they were infected by his virus and weren’t very reliable no matter how he thought about it. At most, they were just an alternative.

The friends the host met in the Pei family in the past were even less useful.

In this way, he could only allow the host to meet new people.

He couldn’t imagine how the cold and not very talkative host would take the initiative to make friends.

Ji Tong thought about it and changed to a low-key voice that was ordinary and featureless. He whispered in Pei Qingyuan’s mind, “Ruan Ruan, this weekend is the city’s basketball league and you can meet a lot of peers. Maybe you can meet a suitable task target…”

With the host’s handsome figure and outstanding ball skills, it definitely wouldn’t be difficult for him to convince a group of high school students from other schools who were defeated by him. This was a very common novel routine.

Pei Qingyuan’s mood was very subtle now. Before testing the reliability, he already had a vague expectation in his heart.

After all, if he was asked this question then he would probably choose Ji Tong as well.

He didn’t know why.

Perhaps this was the magical charm of a smart beauty.

At this moment, he heard the unfamiliar voice of the system that had obviously become cautious and the only remaining sense of loss in Pei Qingyuan’s heart disappeared. He comforted Ji Tong, “It’s okay, use your original voice.”

He still preferred the energetic, young male voice.

Ji Tong instantly sighed with relief. He regained his vigor and solemnly promised, “Ruan Ruan, I will definitely be a smart watch in this basketball game and I won’t use the human child form to add chaos to the host!”

He had to be wary of naive high school students who were easily seduced by cuteness!

Pei Qingyuan heard this and inexplicably remembered the various envious eyes he received today.

Half of it was due to his monthly exam results and the other half seemed to be due to this unique smart watch.

Pei Qingyuan was about to speak when he saw words popping out happily on the dial.

[Thank you host for forgiving me. I am working as a system for the first time and I will definitely work hard to improve!]

Besides the text, brilliant yellow flowers bloomed one by one, as if blooming inside people’s hearts.

Pei Qingyuan forgot what he was going to say in an instant.

“Okay,” he instinctively replied. “I will also try hard to complete the task.”

The little robot finally relaxed completely. He took away the leaf in front of him and showed a big smile.

He completely resolved a possible human-system contradiction.

He really deserved to be the little genius watch.

The training soon ended. After a short rest, all the exhausted students changed their clothes and left the gymnasium.

On the surface, Pei Qingyuan was going home alone tonight without the company of the child who always stuck by his side in the past. For a period of time after this, Ji Tong wouldn’t appear in the form of a child at the school and bakery.

This was the result of his discussion with Ji Tong.

The appearance of Ye Lanting today gave Pei Qingyuan a sense of crisis. He guessed that she was looking for the so-called illegitimate child. After this visit failed, she would definitely find a way to continue searching based on her paranoid personality.

Ji Tong said he could eliminate all images of himself in various surveillance cameras and not leave any biological traces, but Pei Qingyuan still wasn’t at ease.

In any case, now he moved out alone and no longer needed to avoid his so-called family. Ji Tong could appear at home at will in his human form while taking on the watch form at school. This was much freer than before so one person and one system quickly reached a consensus.

The only ones who were hurt were the male high school students who brought snacks in anticipation.

Pei Qingyuan said goodbye to his reliable companions and went to the place where he parked his bicycle. Meanwhile, Ji Tong on his wrist seriously played the role of the smart Xiao Mei.

“Reporting to Master, I am planning the best route for you. There are still 2.3 kilometers to your destination. The estimated riding time is 11 minutes and you will pass through three intersections…”

After talking about the route planning, Ji Tong seriously reported the wind speed, road conditions and stores he would pass by. “The fourth restaurant at the second intersection has spicy crayfish with high ratings. The color is fresh and the meat is plump. It is recommended for Master to try it.”

“……” Pei Qingyuan tried to forget the image of crayfish that supper appeared vividly in his mind. “I don’t eat a late-night meal.”

If he didn’t have fairly strong self-control then he would’ve gained weight a long time ago under the pervasive influence of the food-loving Ji Tong.

“It is a pity.” Ji Tong sighed. “Master is growing and you should supplement more nutrition… Xiao Mei has detected that the height of Master seems to have changed. Did you grow taller?”

Pei Qingyuan felt that this way of talking was really novel. It seemed like he really was talking to a smart assistant, so he cooperated with him. “Okay, go home and measure it.”

He chatted with his system, who was focused on playing an artificial intelligence, while riding his bicycle outside the school gates.

He was just riding by the school gate when he was suddenly stopped by a man in front of the security guard box.

In the hazy night, Luo Zhichang was smoking a cigarette with an impatient expression on his face. He didn’t even bother to fasten the buttons of his security uniform. He had been waiting here for so long. Why did this kid leave school so late?

If his sister hadn’t insisted on letting him bring Pei Qingyuan home tonight, he would’ve gone back to watch TV after work.

“Nephew, have you finished losing your temper?” Luo Zhichang reached out his hand to stop the bicycle and said in a dissatisfied manner, “Hurry up and follow me back. Don’t let your mother worry.”

Pei Qingyuan saw his uncle’s sloppy expression and his face immediately turned cold. He turned away in disgust. “You can’t smoke in school.”

“School has finished and no one can see it. Why do you care so much.” Luo Zhichang looked disdainful and urged in a loud voice. “Okay, that’s enough. Hurry and take me back. I’ve been waiting for you for half a day and it is really delayed. You are an adult. Why are you still throwing a tantrum with your mother who is working hard to support you? You really think you are so powerful…”

As he spoke, he wanted to sit behind Pei Qingyuan’s bicycle. He didn’t expect Pei Qingyuan to kick forward suddenly, making him miss.

“I don’t think I am that powerful.” Pei Qingyuan looked at him coldly. “At the very least, I’m not so idle that I still rely on my sister to live at this age.”

“My own mother didn’t provide for me but provided for you. I can move out alone but what about you? Are you willing?”

Luo Zhichang staggered to his feet. He had almost fallen into dog poop. Now he heard his nephew’s mockery and felt that he lost face. A burst of anger appeared in his heart and he said in a loud voice, “What are you saying? You are talking to your elders with such an attitude. Your upbringing…”

Before he could finish speaking, there was a burst of laughter from students not far away.

The basketball team members who walked back or waited for their parents to pick them up were slower than Pei Qingyuan, who rode home. They saw him at the school gate and greeted him one after another. “Brother Pei, you haven’t left yet?”

Someone keenly noticed the strange atmosphere between Pei Qingyuan and the man next to him. “Isn’t that the new security guard at the school? What did he say to Brother Pei?”

“I don’t know but I dislike this person. He doesn’t feel like a good person. I go around every time I see him…”

The group of people immediately quickened their pace and walked toward the security booth, worried that Pei Qingyuan would get into trouble.

Seeing a group of tall boys walking toward him aggressively, Luo Zhichang inexplicably trembled. The accusations that hadn’t finished yet were suddenly stuck in his throat.

Fu Chengze, who was the most famous one, spoke on behalf of everyone. He squinted at Luo Zhichang with a domineering aura. “Brother Pei, what’s wrong?”

“He is smoking in school,” Pei Qingyuan said calmly.

“D*mn, what a stinky smell.”

“Pinch it out!” Someone shouted. “It is disgusting to let students smoke second-hand smoke. Can’t we complain to the school about him…?”

Hearing the words of the students, Luo Zhichang actually reached out and threw the cigarette on the ground, hurriedly stepping on it.

He felt that he had a backer and wasn’t afraid of any complaints. However, he was inevitably afraid when surrounded by so many fierce-looking and strong students.

Pei Qingyuan saw his funny reaction and said loudly, “You can’t litter in school.”

Everyone’s eyes fell on the cigarette butt under his feet.

Fu Chengze quickly added, “You really have no quality. Quickly pick it up and throw it into the trash can.”

Luo Zhichang trembled at the sight of these eyes that seemed to want to make a move in the next second. He gritted his teeth and had to bend over to pick it up.

As he bent down, he heard a voice without the slightest emotion enter his ears, “Please tell her that I am doing well now and won’t go back.”

Luo Zhichang threw the cigarette butt into the trash and quietly looked up. He could only see the sight of this group of students noisily leaving.

The boy pushing the bicycle in the middle was tall and upright. He was shrouded in faint moonlight and seemed as if he would never look back.

Pei Qingyuan rode in the moonlight all the way home while accompanied by very cold jokes.

Ji Tong was worried that the host’s mood would be affected by Luo Zhichang and immediately called up the stored data of the cold joke library.

“There were two people telling jokes on the beach and then they died.” He said in a small tone. “Why?”

Pei Qingyuan thought about it seriously and answered uncertainly, “Because the joke is too funny?”

“He wasn’t very good at this type of brain teaser and wouldn’t be able to guess the answer.

“It is half right.” Ji Tong let out a cheerful mechanical laugh. “The joke is too funny so the sea laughed, and they died.”

Pei Qingyuan: “……”

It took him a long time to react to this homophonic joke.

Tsunami, so cold. (sea laughs = hai xiao. Tsunami= haixiao)

But he still smiled.

Ji Tong calculated the time needed to go home very accurately. 11 minutes passed quickly. Pei Qingyuan parked the bicycle downstairs of the community building and walked into the elevator of the apartment building.

After stepping out of the elevator, the voice-activated lights turned on, reflecting clean white walls. He found the key to open the door under the bright lights. There was a soft noise from the keyhole and he reached out to open the door., The snow-white Ha Hura immediately came up and arched against his trouser legs affectionately.

At the same time, a small figure suddenly appeared in front of him and placed his arms around the cat with the loving butt.

“Hua Hua, there is a tsunami~”

Ji Tong was immersed in the aftertaste of the cold joke as he picked up the cat and went to the kitchen.

“Meow meow meow meow!” Put me down!

What sea is the sea? Do you want to trick me into taking a bath again?

Last time, I proved that the love heart on my butt won’t fade!

The cat in his arms resisted with teeth and paws, but Ji Tong patted its soft butt soothingly. He tiptoed to find snacks in the cupboard. Then he suddenly remembered something and ran out again.

“Ruan Ruan, measure your height!”

Ji Tong was too short. He could only help Pei Qingyuan hold the end of the tape measure against the ground while Pei Qingyuan reached out and measured the height above his head.

Pei Qingyuan did as he said. At this time, the black watch on his wrist had become a soulless empty shell, leaving only the simplest function of looking at the time.

He fixed the tape measure and took it down to take a look. He found that the ruler had fallen on the position of 182.

“You really grew a centimeter taller!” Ji Tong was excited. “Great. More than 185 cm is just around the corner!”

“Ruan Ruan, we should buy a giraffe’s height sticker, the type with a very long neck. You can draw a horizontal line next to it every time you measure your height. It is said that many human families do this.”

His system provided suggestions with anticipation. Pei Qingyuan carefully remembered it and prepared to buy it tomorrow.

Under the warm yellow ceiling light, Hua Hua struggled out of Ji Tong’s arms. He curiously fiddled with the ruler that was pulled very long and looked silly.

On the side, Ji Tong was focused on calculating the growth rate with his fingers. “I have known the host for a month and the host has grown by one centimeter. It will take another four months to surpass Fu Chengze. If it is another year…”

Hua Hua saw his little master raising his fingers and immediately threw away the ruler, stretching out fleshy paws to imitate him. As Ji Tong was doing math problems, he followed along with a meow. One person and one cat sat next to each other and the picture was exceptionally harmonious.

Pei Qingyuan’s cold eyes softened.

Someone would rejoice for this inconspicuous centimeter.

Therefore, he didn’t speak. He just patiently listened as Ji Tong’s calculation of his future height became more and more outrageous.

His eyes glanced over the warm living room and the spacious balcony. He saw that the night outside the window was as cool as water and the scenery was quiet. Countless windows were lit with similar lights, reflecting many different homes.

Pei Qingyuan thought vaguely that this seemed to be the home he always longed for.

    Thank you for the chapter!

The homey scenes make me feel all warm inside. ☺️

What a scummy uncle! I think he should be fired because he’s a bad influence overall. I just it’s funny how when the uncle complains about Pei Qingyuan being an adult and needing to act as one, Pei Qingyuan in turn responds with the irony that his uncle still lives off his sister whereas he can support himself. It was the perfect comparison!

On another note, as much as I’m happy that Pei Qingyuan finally has the feeling of home, I’m just as sad that he only found that feeling after living by himself. Things will get better from now on, though!

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
